How do you show up on Google?

The free Google Business Profile, reviews, a website Google can read and Search Console: what each does, in what order, and how long it honestly takes.

Two different places on Google

A search like "dentist Craiova" shows two things. At the top, a map with three businesses: that comes from Google Business Profiles. Below it, the ordinary results: those are websites. You want to be in both, and they are won in different ways.

Start with your Google Business Profile

It is free, and it is what puts you on the map and in the panel that appears when someone searches your name.

  • Create or claim it at business.google.com. Google then verifies that the business is real; how it does that varies from business to business.
  • Pick the primary category that describes what you do, as precisely as Google allows. It is the setting that matters most for which searches you appear in.
  • Fill in everything: hours, phone, website, services, a short description, and real photos of your work, your team and your place.
  • If customers do not come to you (trades, mobile services, studios like ours), set a service area and hide the street address.
  • Use your real business name. Adding keywords to it ("Popescu Plumbing Craiova Cheap") breaks Google's guidelines and can get the profile suspended.

Reviews

Reviews are what people read before they call, and the number and quality of them is one of the things Google weighs for the map.

  • Ask every happy customer, right after the job, with a direct link to your review form (the profile gives you one).
  • Reply to every review, the bad ones calmly and in particular. Other customers read the replies.
  • Never buy reviews, write your own or offer something in exchange for a good one. Google removes them and can restrict the profile.

Give Google a website to read

The profile tells Google that you exist. The website tells it what exactly you do and where, which is what wins the longer searches ("emergency plumber Craiova Sunday", "veneer price Craiova").

  • One page per main service, saying what it is, who it is for, the area you cover and roughly what it costs.
  • The city or area named where it naturally belongs: in the title of the page, the heading and the text. Not repeated twenty times.
  • The same business name, address and phone number on the site, the profile and every directory you are listed in.
  • Fast on a phone. Most local searches happen on one.
  • A link from the profile to the site, and from the site to the profile.

If you do not have a site yet, Does your business need a website? covers whether it is worth it.

Tell Google the site exists

Google Search Console is free. Add your site, submit its sitemap, and you can see which searches you appear for, which pages are indexed and what is wrong with the ones that are not. It is also where the searches you did not know people were making show up first.

How long it takes

A verified profile can start appearing within days. A new website usually takes weeks to be indexed and months to climb for searches with competition. Anyone who promises a date is guessing.

Google says so itself: its own guide to hiring an SEO warns that no one can guarantee a first place in its results. Be wary of anyone who does.

What not to do

  • Buy links or reviews.
  • Hide keywords on the page in text people cannot see.
  • Make one near-identical page per town you have never worked in.
  • Change your business name on the profile to stuff in keywords.

All of these are against Google's spam policies, and when they are caught the penalty is worse than the gain ever was.

Where we come in

Standard SEO is included in every plan we build: page titles and descriptions, a sitemap, structured data, fast pages and a page per service. Prices are in How much does a website cost?

Frequently asked questions

Is a Google Business Profile free?
Yes. Creating, verifying and updating it costs nothing. Google sells ads next to it, but the profile itself does not depend on them.
Can I appear on Google without a website?
Yes, on the map and in the profile panel. Without a website you will rarely appear in the ordinary results, especially for searches that do not include your name.
Can someone guarantee me first place on Google?
No. Google states that no one can guarantee a first-place ranking. A good site and profile improve your chances; anyone promising a position is promising something they do not control.
  • Does your business need a website? Most customers look you up before they call. What a website does that a Facebook page or a Google listing cannot, and when you honestly do not need one yet.
  • How much does a website cost? Real 2026 prices for a presentation site, an online shop and custom software in Romania, what pushes the price up, and the running costs nobody mentions.
  • Website or Facebook page? A social page is free and quick; a website is yours and shows up in search. What each does well, where each falls short, and why most businesses need both.
  • Presentation site or online shop? A presentation site brings in calls and enquiries; an online shop takes payment. How to tell which one your business needs, what each costs and when to switch.
  • What must a Romanian online shop show by law? Company details, prices, the 14-day return right, terms, ANPC, privacy and cookies: a plain checklist for selling online in Romania, as of October 2026.
  • Wix, WordPress or a custom website? A site builder is cheap to start; a custom site costs more up front and is yours to keep. Where each wins, the costs that come later, and how to choose.
